A web comedy drama and a track by singer Miu Le tops YouTube’s year-end video and music video (MV) rankings; Do Dat Official is most prominent content creator.

Comedians loomed large as YouTube announced Friday its year-end top 10 trending videos, creators and songs in Vietnam.

Leading the video category was a Lunar New Year web comedy drama produced and acted in by MC Tran Thanh, which has garnered over 31 million views and nearly 400,000 likes on the streaming platform.

This is the second year that Tran Thanh has appeared in the outstanding videos list, after “Bo Gia” (Dad, I’m Sorry) in 2020.

YouTube said that 2022 has been a big year for the return of shows in many different genres. Productions have rebounded strongly this year on the back of improvements in post-pandemic filming conditions. Many programs have been attracting large audiences by inviting celebrities.

Football programs and web dramas have been well-received by the public this year.

Despite the fierce competition between musicians on the streaming platform, singer Miu Le’s “Vi Me Anh Bat Chia Tay” (My Mom Forces Us To Break Up), in collaboration with rapper Karik and singer Chau Dang Khoa, was the most played MV on the platform. It took the number one spot after racking up over 88.6 million views and over 640,000 likes since it was uploaded in June.

Along with fresh takes on familiar themes, this year’s crop of top music videos spanned a wide range of musical styles and featured a host of up-and-coming artists working in genres as varied as EDM, rap and pop.

Comedian Do Dat Official, whose real name is Do Tien Dat, was the number one content creator in Vietnam this year.

The streaming service said most of this year’s top content creators belonged to “Gen Z,” or those born between 1997 and 2012. This group of creators have excelled at spotting emerging trends and initiating them on social media, it said.

YouTube is currently available in over 100 markets and has over 2 billion monthly active users.
