Regent Phu Quoc off the southern coast was the only Vietnamese representative to break into a list of the world’s 100 best new hotels as voted by US magazine Travel+Leisure’s editors and contributors.

The editors have spent the last year tracking the essential hotel openings and reopenings around the world for its annual list, which saw representatives from 37 countries on six continents this year.

The resort, around 15 minutes from Phu Quoc International Airport, opened its door to tourists in April last year.

It features 302 suites and villas, six restaurants and bars, as well as swimming pools that overlook Long Beach, next to a UNESCO-recognized world biosphere reserve.

The resort also has a fitness center, meditation studio and rooftop yoga pavilions.

Phu Quoc, Vietnam‘s largest island, has become internationally popular since the government allowed 30-day visa-free entry in 2014.

Other Southeast Asian representatives on the list were InterContinental Khao Yai in Thailand, Jumeirah Bali and Buahan in Indonesia.
